In the first chapter or so we get to know Byron, Kenny and Joetta and the rest of the Weird Watsons. We also learn about why Bryon is labeled a “juvenile delinquent.” He doesn’t make the best choices in his actions, his words or his friends. If you were Kenny, how would you feel about your brother’s behavior? What would it mean to him and Joetta to have someone like Byron as your big brother?

  1. If I was Kenny and I had a troublesome older brother I would try to understand his actions instead of immediately telling an adult. I feel as though Byron may be stressed and so he takes his stress out on his actions which are directed towards Kenny. In my opinion Byron's attitude and directed force would scare me and having him as an older brother would probably be difficult and frustrating. Even though Byron is a delinquent it is clear that even with all the imperfections in his family he still loves them.

    2. I agree because family is family. Forgiving is good.

    3. Great job. I would have never thought about stress.

  2. If I were Kenny, I would feel mad and happy about my brother’s behavior. I would feel mad because he is a moody teenager… The one that doesn’t really like many things you do. I would also be mad because he tease(d/s) me and I would feel embarrassed… To be honest I am a little bit sensitive about what kind of topic i’m getting teased about. I would feel happy because when he would got his tongue stuck on the car I would feel happy because that would be some of the revenge of teasing me. The last reason why I would be happy is because he would give me good advice, like in ‘how to survive a blizzard’.

    2. Ya I would be happy about his lips getting stuck to.

    3. Same, if Byron were my brother, I would be very happy.

    4. Revenge on Byron would be kind of funny after all he has done.

    5. I would actually feel bad for my brother, because he would just look so panicked and sad that I couldn't tease him

  3. I would feel that Byron is a jerk and I would want to do something about it. If he bugged me constantly then I would let someone know and if he only did it once in awhile then I might just ignore but it would still be annoying. It would mean kind of to do whatever he wants, if he wants Kenny to go get him a soda you might have to ask for the money and then give it to him because you don’t want to be bullied by a ‘juvenile delinquent’.

    2. I agree, about telling someone, but my parents sometimes do a lot and sometimes very little about the situation about my brother bugging me. Because my brother bugs me a lot, if I were Kenny, and I told my mom, she probably wouldn't care because Byron is kind of the "Mom's pet" because when By got his tongue stuck on the car...

    3. I agree because whenever my brother hurts me, and I tell someone, my brother just acts like he was the victim and like I was "annoying him"

  4. If I was Kenny, I would feel kind of mad because I wouldn’t want a moody, too-cool teenage brother. (Luckily I don’t have one). To Kenny and Joey, it would mean they would have to put up with his horrible pranks and bad attitude. I would not want to have Byron as a brother.

    1. You could also look on the bright side, and think that if you managed to get Byron back then you could have great satisfaction.

    2. I know. It is like having an untrained ape as a brother.

  5. If I were Kenny and I had Byron as my big brother I would feel scared and embarrassed. I would feel scared because he makes bad decisions and he might do something to you when you don’t know. He also might do something bad and he would get mad at you for telling somebody. I would feel embarrassed because he might hurt you at school or in public and you would get hurt and cry. That would make you feel very embarrassed and sad. He also might do something bad and everyone knows he is your brother so people would make fun of you and do other things to you because they know you are his younger brother. Having him as my brother would be hard for me and I would not like it!

  6. In Watsons Go to Birmingham I would feel disappointed in my brother’s behavior. I would be disappointed because he is always doing things that he shouldn’t. I would also be worried. I would be worried because that could be me when I’m his age. I would also be worried because then when I try to do something they may know him and not let me in. What it would mean to me if I had a brother like Bryan I would be angry. I would be angry because he always be teasing me and probably get me in trouble. I would also be thankful. I would be thankful because he could help me out in situations such as not getting picked when Kenny read the book in front of Bryan’s class.

  7. If I was Kenny, I would not think very good things about my brother’s behavior. For one, he does not show off a very good example to Joetta and Kenny to follow. All he shows is how to rude and and treat people very meanly even if they are your siblings. I would feel like I was older and more mature than him because when I (Kenny) had the chance to torture Byron, he didn’t, and he chose to help him. The text states,”I could have done a lot of stuff to him. If it had been me with my lips stuck on something like this he’d have tortured me for a couple of days before he got help. Not me, though, I nearly broke my neck trying to get into the house to rescue Byron.” This shows how mature, thoughtful, kind, and respectful Kenny is more than Byron. I would not think that Byron would be a good big brother to anyone.

  8. I think it would meen greatness with a side of embarrassment. It would be great because you can laugh when your big brother, the god of Clark, makes humiliating mistakes. But, It'd be embarrassing because everyone else might think that you're just as capable of making the same mistakes.

    1. I think that If I laughed at Byron, I would be beat up as soon as he can get to me alone.

  9. If I were Kenny, I think I would be properly suited to be Byron’s little brother. As of having a brother kind of like Byron, I think that I would be glad, but upset at being Kenny. I would be happy to not get beat up as much because my brother is the god of Clark Elementary, but I would get tired of getting teased by Byron and Buphead. I would also be worried but very excited when Byron got stuck to the car. I would be scared for him, but I would know that teasing him after that would be the perfect revenge plan after he was being mean to me.

  10. If I were Kenny and had Byron as a brother, I would feel scared, but also grateful. I would feel scared because he would be so much bigger and more powerful. He would probably jerk me around like I was his puppet. Also, I would be grateful because having the “school god” as your brother would come in handy and act as protection.

  11. If I were Kenny I would feel unloved, and have no role model. I would feel this way because he bullies me. He likes to throw me in snow banks and laugh. He also does things that are not influential to me. Such as sassing my parents. It would mean to me that my family is discombobulated, due to my brothers actions. Living like this will make me feel distort.

  12. If I were Kenny, and Byron was my brother I would feel scared of what his actions were. For example, since he was the "god" of the school, if he made fun of me, then everyone would make fun of me too. It's the same thing if he treated me as his tackling dummy. once he started, everyone would. If I was Kenny, I would be scared of what my brother might do. To me, having Byron as my brother would make me want him to like me so that he wouldn't put a target on my back

  13. If I was Kenny and had Byron as my big brother I would feel threatened whenever around due to all his teasing and bullying . I think his behavior is weird I feel as if he wants to flunk on purpose just to be bigger I think his behavior is wrong and kinda mean. If I was Joeta I would feel somewhat safe compared to Kenny because Byron would probably not pick on me. That is what I think about Byron

  14. If I was Kenny I would feel frustrated and annoyed. I would feel frustrated because he and his friend are always being mean to me, even when I am minding my own business. I would also be frustrated because he would be making things miserable for me all the time. I would be annoyed because he is always just acting like he is the best guy in the world and everyone else is worse than him. I would also be annoyed because he would always be mean to me and then ask me for help when he needs it.

If Byron was my big brother that he would probably either be an influence to only care about yourself and nobody else or he would be an influence like “I don’t want to be like him at all.”

  15. If I were Kenny I would feel good because when your brother teases you it means that he loves you and he is proud of you. I should know because I have four siblings. I think it would mean to them that they have a school god as a older brother. I think that Kenny thinks he is cool. But I think that he gets more attention because of it. In the book it also said that By was kind of sticking up for Kenny and I think that that is really cool.

  16. If I was Kenny and my older brother was Byron, I think that I would mostly hate having him as my brother. I would like that people would not be as mean to me because they know that Byron is my brother and they would be afraid of that so they wouldn’t be as mean. But, he still is super mean to me. For Kenny and Joetta, it is probably pretty tricky having a brother like Byron.

  17. If i was Kenny then I would feel like I would have nobody to look up to and nobody to help me get through rough times. If your a big brother you know how it feels to have to help your brother with almost everything they do.

  18. If I was Kenny, I would feel kind of mad because I wouldn’t want a moody, too-cool teenage brother. (Luckily I don’t have one). I would also feel kind of lucky, because he's the god of school and all. I would also not approvve of his choice of friends; Buphead. I think that if he had chosen different friends, better ones, he probably would have ended up as a kind of good brother. To Kenny and Joey, it would mean they would have to put up with his horrible pranks and bad attitude. That would not be pleasant. I would not want to have Byron as a brother.

  19. If Byron was my older brother I would avoid him as much a possible and probably say he is not my brother. I would avoid him because it sounds like he hurts or teases everyone he sees. I would say he is not my brother because I would be teased just because he is my brother. So I feel bad for Kenny and Joetta because they have Byron as a brother.

  20. If Byron was my older brother, I would have mixed feelings. On one hand, I would love him because he was my brother. I'd want to make him proud, and I would want do things that he would like in order to make him think that I was cool or interesting. On the other hand, I would be afraid of Byron. Byron is a bully. He looks for opportunities to make people feel bad, and even to hurt them. I would want to stay away from Byron because I would be worried that he might hurt me, or might be planning to do something mean.
It would be challenging to have Byron as an older brother.

    1. I definitely agree with you. There are good and bad about it but I think that there is more bad because kids might also get mad at you for being brothers with a kid that is mean to them.

    2. If I were Kenny, I would feel disappointed in my brother’s behavior. I would try to look up to him, even knowing that he is a delinquent. I would not be able to appreciate him, nor dislike him, since he bullied me and saved me in school the same amount, it kind of cancels each other out. If he was my brother though, I would be such more of a tattletale. Right now, I only tell on people if they hurt me or my friends, but if he was my brother if he so much as touched me I would tell on him for punching me. Why? Because I would have learned that someone like that does not stop if you say stop. I am not name calling though. *coughs* *says something unintelligible.*

  22. If my older brother was Byron I would feel disappointed due to his actions. I might also feel upset that my brother has chosen that path to go down so I might try to fight back. In the book Byron is labeled a juvenile delinquent as well as his best friend Buphead. This might make Kenny scared because Byron is older and larger than Kenny. Having Byron as an older sibling might mean that Kenny and Joetta have to be more aware and careful of their surroundings. They might also have to learn how to fight back against their brother.

  23. If I were Kenny and had Byron as a brother I would be very worried as to what he'd be capable of. I would be stressing out because I don't know what he could be getting into. It would mean two things to Kenny and Joetta. First, it means that they would have to keep a close eye on him. Kenny and Joetta would have to monitor him closely. They would have to "babysit" him all the time. Also, it would mean that they would be getting pranked by him and Buphead. You don't know what could come next: plastic wrap on the toilet seat, a bird in your bed, frosting in the shampoo bottles! The possibilities are endless as to where he could go with pranking you! As you can see, it would be stressful, with lots of pranks and monitoring.

  24. If I were Kenny, I would feel thankful and mad. I would feel thankful because I would have someone to teach me how to be tough. He would give me some bruises, but I would like that. I would also be mad because he would never stop being mean to me. I would like if he was mean for a little then stop, but he doesn't. Even though he is mean to his family, I now they love him.

  25. If Byron was my brother, I would not know how to behave around him. He is my brother so I love him, but I also see him act very mean and make bad choices. I wouldn’t want to spend time with him because I wouldn’t trust him. I would be on edge all the time wondering if he was going to do something mean, or prank me or someone else. It would be very hard to have a big brother like Byron.

Joetta and Kenny might feel responsible for their brothers behavior toward other people. It could cause a lot of stress for them. They may also worry about how he will treat them so they may feel like they have to be nice to him.

  26. If I was Kenny and I had a older brother like Byron I would feel that he is a little bit too rough on Kenny but I think that in a lot of families the older siblings kinda beat up on the younger siblings and I know this because I have personal experiences. So to answer the question I do feel that his brother's behavior is just Byron playing with Kenny but I do think that he could dial it down.
I think that even though Byron is always mean to Kenny It still said in the story that because of Byron being the school's “god” Larry Dun did not take the 1$ bill so that mean that if Kenny was in a really bad situation I think that Byron would have his back so even though Byron is mean he still means a lot.

  27. If I was Kenny and had a brother like Byron I would first try to dodge his tricks ask my parent to see what happened when she/he was a teenager so I can understand him and try to make him happy. I would do this because I think his behavior is unacceptable because you have to treat family with respect and kindness ( at least that is what my mom says). I think what Joetta thinks about Byron is that she doesn't like his attitude but she doesn’t really understand what's going on too because Byron hasn’t treated her rudely yet. I also think that she is just a little kid that loves him very much.

  28. If I were kenny I would be concerned about my brother's behavior. The reason I would be concerned is because why would you kiss yourself in the mirror instead of get on the way to a warm house!? My point is if I were kenny I would probably try to tease him back since my sister is also 13 and that's what works for me. Byron is a child going through parent issues, meaning his parents are annoying to him. I wouldn’t want to have a brother like that.

  29. If I was Kenny, I honestly wouldn't like Byron at all! I'm a older sibling but I thought that my little sister was the juvenile delinquent! I would not be OK if Byron was my brother and was a juvenile delinquent
